Como waterfront, Brunate and Sinigaglia Stadium

Como’s first lake basin combines waterfront walks, architecture, sport and viewpoints. Hill excursions are separate from the flatter lakeside: Brunate and Baradello require different preparation. Choose a route suited to the weather and your walking ability.

Piazza Cavour and Life Electric

Daniel Libeskind’s Life Electric pays tribute to Alessandro Volta at the end of the Piero Caldirola breakwater. Its curved forms introduce contemporary art into the setting of Como’s first lake basin.

Planning your visit. Orient yourself at Piazza Cavour and use the breakwater only when access and weather allow. It offers a view towards town without taking a boat. The directions button starts at the sculpture, not at the square.

Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium

The Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium opened in 1927 during the celebrations honouring Volta. Its lakeside setting makes it part of a walk linking sport, scenery and 20th-century architecture.

Planning your visit. For a match, use the club’s official ticket and access information. Allow for crowds, checks and road restrictions on match days. We do not promise tourist access inside; the button gives a route from the stadium to our restaurant.

War Memorial and Rationalist district

The Monumento ai Caduti was built in 1933 by Giuseppe and Attilio Terragni, inspired by a drawing by Antonio Sant’Elia. The lakeside tower belongs to Como’s architectural itinerary devoted to Rationalism.

Planning your visit. Combine the exterior with the stadium and Tempio Voltiano. Interior access and climbs depend on scheduled openings, so check before including them. Keep to public routes when exploring the surrounding buildings.

Villa Olmo and the villas walk

Villa Olmo is a neoclassical residence designed by Simone Cantoni for the Odescalchi family. The western waterfront walk also passes historic residences including Villa Saporiti and Villa Gallia.

Planning your visit. Choose this walk for architecture and lake scenery. The official page consulted reports restoration of the villa and partial access to the park. Check current arrangements rather than assuming that the interiors are open.

Villa del Grumello and the Knowledge Kilometre

The Chilometro della Conoscenza links Villa Olmo, Villa del Grumello and Villa Sucota through a landscape and cultural project involving their parks. Villa Sucota is home to the Fondazione Antonio Ratti.

Planning your visit. Treat this as an extension beyond the central waterfront. Check each park’s opening calendar and whether connecting paths are available. Not every area is always accessible. Our restaurant directions start at Villa del Grumello.

Como–Brunate funicular

Opened in 1894, the funicular connects Como with Brunate. The hilltop village is known for views and Art Nouveau villas from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The lower station is on Piazza De Gasperi.

Planning your visit. Check that day’s service and the last descent before going up. After returning to Como, our button leads from the lower station to La Griglia on foot. It is not a walking descent from Brunate.

Brunate and the Volta Lighthouse

The Faro Voltiano stands at San Maurizio above Brunate. Designed by Gabriele Giussani and built in 1927, it commemorates the centenary of Volta’s death and is another landscape landmark dedicated to the scientist.

Planning your visit. The climb from Brunate station is a separate uphill journey; the lighthouse is not immediately outside the station. Check weather, tower access and return transport. The official page consulted reports the tower closed.

Castel Baradello and Spina Verde

The Baradello fortress is associated with Frederick Barbarossa and was built above earlier structures in a strategic position overlooking Como. It forms part of the Spina Verde park landscape, where archaeology meets nature.

Planning your visit. This is an uphill outing rather than a short level detour between shops. Wear appropriate footwear and check paths, weather and tower visits. A Google walking suggestion does not replace official trail signs.
